My Christmas….and Easter….Cactus
Every year, my great-grandmother’s Christmas cactus decides to display a few blooms in honor of Easter. I like to think that it knows that Easter was the fulfillment of Christmas. This year, the blooms have appeared early. But what can one expect? For a cactus to read the calendar? When has Easter ever been this late? My cactus and I are ready for it now!

Did I tell you how much Wil enjoyed your post about the old school and house? I’m so thankful Easter is late this year. Maybe he will be able to enjoy it and the usual dinner for family and friends that we host almost annually.
My Christmas cactus bloomed for Thanksgiving, Christmas and now it is budding and blooming for Easter. Don’t you just love your Chrisrtmas cactus? How old is yours? Mine is only 5 years old but I certainly enjoy it. Nice picture.
You make me wish I still had mine. I pitched it.
It’s beautiful! My mom can grow these like nobody’s business! She gave me one last fall and it bloomed at Christmas time. A leaf came off and I rooted it. I hope it’ll grow!
I love the idea of an Easter cactus!!
I’ve had a few years where mine bloomed both at Christmas and for Easter. SWEET!
Yours looks better than mine. Any tips to keep it happy?
That’s a great plant, Janet, and I love your thought about Easter. Mine is blooming too.
kinda neat that a CHRISTMAS cactus blooms at easter – i like what you said about that.
What a beautiful plant! It must be quite old – it’s huge! Ours has not bloomed again for Easter but it’s been flowering until just recently so I guess that’s a lot to ask. Happy Easter!
I am so jealous. I put my cactus out on the deck last summer and a gray squirrel ate every bit of it!
