  • How I wonder…

who would read it…the story I keep mentally writing? The Line Sisters is modern, yet old-fashioned, and it stars some characters who delve into things I enjoy: genealogy, quilting, farm life, mystery. These people are alive in my head, and I love them all…but would anyone else love them and care about them as I do? It’s scary to think about introducing them to the whole wide world, when the w.w.w. can be so critical and cold and judgmental. Perhaps they’re better off staying where they are.

what will the new year bring? It’s almost here; I can almost feel it peeking in my window, looking over my shoulder, ready to pounce! Twenty-eleven. Sounds like a little child, learning to count.

when will we have snow this winter? It seems as if everyone else, even those who NEVER get it,  have been getting snow. I think I need a little snow to make me know it is winter, one of my four favorite seasons.

where I can find the willpower to commit to a more disciplined daily routine? To ALWAYS start my day with prayer, to always make good choices, to always remember to smile, to be kind instead of critical, to…

why a rooster would crow eight times at 12:36 A.M.? And why am I wide awake listening to him? I thought tired people…and chickens…are supposed to be asleep at that hour.

…if I can remember how to sew? If I simply walk up the stairs, turn on the light in my sewing room and sit down at my machine, will it come back to me? I want to find out the answer to this question, and very soon.

    I keep six honest serving-men,
    They taught me all I knew;
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.

  • I imagine your book would appeal to people; there are a lot of people around with similar interests to yours. Why not post a chapter here? There are a lot of would-be and accomplished writers on Xanga and the feedback I’ve gotten has always been encouraging and constructive.

  • You have nothing to lose by testing a bit of  your book out on us. We are all kind people I think & we can be honest without being brutally honest. fog today and hoar frost, it is lovely.

  • We Xangans would be easy on your book. I too am wondering if I still remember how to sew and will hopefully figure it out after the CA trip next month. When you get the daily routine for doing better down you will let me know the secret won’t you? On the rooster question you are on your own. Was the moon full? I can’t remember and I was still awake then too. I’m excited to be meeting up with another Xangan on the 5th if the weather and all goes well. She is “pieced treasures” from VA. I’m really looking forward to it. She will be the 7th (counting 2 spouses) Xangan we have had the joy of meeting.

  • Janet, it sounds like the book you will write is already forming in your mind…it’s there…just start putting the words on the screen/paper.  I always thought, “Dear Lord, if you want me to write a book you must make the itch to do it too strong to ignore.”  And it seems like that is what has happened to you!  You have the itch.  ;)

I enjoyed your questions.  And I”ll be looking forward to seeing what develops.  Thanks for sharing!

  • @TheSunnyC - Is Donna coming to Missouri????

  • Yep! Taking Becky to CO and coming back through on the 5th. I think if all works out we will meet her at Cracker Barrel at the Lee’s Summit Road exit off I-70. Want to come up and go with us?

  • @TheSunnyC - That would be SUCH fun! But unfortunately I can’t do it then–got some other things on the calendar right then that I cannot change. It is a good 4 1/2-hour drive for me, and if I did come, I would want to spend the night with my family in KC–I’ll think about it but I feel sure I cannot. Boo!

  • Janet I’ll read it! God has given you this special gift of writing. I stand in awl and amazement of people who know how to put well chosen words and thoughts down on paper. Try as I may, it’s so hard!…..now sewing? That’s another story! I’d love to walk with you up those steps to the sewing room, turn on the light and sit at the machine beside you. You can do it! You take care. Love, ~Polly~

  • Janet-

I’d love to read The Line Sisters. If you’re fortunate enough to be given something to write, I think you need to write it, and let God take care of who reads it. But that’s easy for me to say, when it’s YOUR book.

  • I think Xanga would love your book.. give it a go!

Happy LATE Birthday Janet! I hope it was a good one!

  •  I wonder what would have happened if Laura Ingalls Wilder said, “Naw, nobody wants to read this stuff”??

    Oh I know!…….nothing.

If it doesn’t work out, you can always add a serial killer that skulks around in the woods dragging a sledge hammer. Then Hollywood would come knocking.

  • @gcstotes - Sounds like Hollywood talkin’ there….
