  •  …it’s hard to determine exactly what our season is, right now.

The fall decorations go along with the calendar…

but the crepe myrtle, hot summer’s favorite bush, is still blooming merrily along.

The oaks, loaded with their acorn crop, have convinced the squirrels it is fall….

but the periwinkles in this old iron shovel are blooming as heartily as they’ve done all summer.

This burning bush hedge is showing the first signs of turning the shrub’s signature red…

but the tomatoes keep growing out of the tops of their cages.

I’ve moved the ferns to the screened porch, in preparation for the ultimate move indoors…

yet the dwarf hollyhocks are going crazy.

The horses wonder why I’m in their pasture with camera in hand on this misty morn…

and the teenage chicks are at that awkward stage, gawky and homely (though Bertha, has only gotten more elegant and beautiful with motherhood.)

Chip and Justacat could not care less what the season is…they only want breakfast!

  • And here I thought that crepe myrtle and periwinkles were a Southeastern thing – shows what I know! Love that little trip around your place! It made me feel like it is fall even if it was near 80 here today!

  • Our crepe myrtles are still blooming some too and all the flowers are up and going at least the ones I’ve kept watered. All my house plants are ready to come in or in.

Storms called for tomorrow night and I just walked the dog so to speak, and noticed the wind is coming directly out of the east now. Hope the might be tornadoes don’t materialize. We do need rain though.

    Enjoyed your pictures.

  • We’re having the same delima in California. It’s raining and the late evenings turn off cold but when we first go to bed it’s been so sultry that sometimes we need to turn the air conditioner on.

I love fall! I am really enjoying the fall colors this year!!!

  • I love this post – with your interesting photos and comentary.

  • How adorable! I’m the same way…my pink impatiens are still blooming their heads off, the tomatoes are still bearing small fruit, and the maple trees are still green. I have pumpkins and mums on my steps, and I’m thinking I’m just going to have to dig up the impatiens and go ahead and plant pansies there…but I’m afraid it’s too hot for the pansies! And – we turned on our AC again tonight because it’s so muggy, and I think we’re under a tornado watch…????

  • That fern is about the most beautiful, full one I’ve ever seen!  What’s your secret?  We also had a misty morn yesterday, Tuesday, it was so beautiful that I wished my camera was with me…good for you to remember to grab it when you go out.  Thanks for sharing these lovely rural scenes!

  • thanks for a lovely wander round your ‘patch’..love the misty pics of the horses….I just pot up the geraniums and store very dry inside in a corner.  I have overwintered them dried out, just the roots packed up with soil, the leaves drop off, then hurrah, come spring, out they come, bit of watering, and they throw out new fresh shoots.
